It is so easy to get our focus on the wrong things. Especially when we are going through a difficult time. When we are hurting or we feel crushed sometimes we can get stuck on our pain or our circumstances and loose focus of life. We can also loose our focus in our walk with the Lord.
In Exodus 15 we find the bitter water at Marah. Lets read this together and see what it has to do with focus.
Exodus 15:22-27 So Moses brought Israel from the Red sea, and they went out into the wilderness of Shur; and they went three days in the wilderness, and found no water. And when they came to Marah, they could not drink of the waters of Marah, for they were bitter; therefore the name of it was called Marah. And the people murmured against Moses, saying, What shall we drink? And he cried unto the LORD; and the LORD shewed him a tree, which when he had cast into the waters, the waters were made sweet: there he made for them a statute and an ordinance, and there he proved them, And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight and give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee. And they came to Elim, where were twelve wells of water, and threescore and ten palm trees: and they encamped there by the waters.
After the people had been delivered from the Red sea they came to a wilderness place. They were thirsty. The water was there but it could not be used because it was bitter. They were facing a difficult situation. What did they choose to do? They begin to complain. They began to focus on their situation. They began to get angry with Moses. The difference between the people and Moses was that Moses knew who to go to. He went to God. He kept his focus on the Lord and by doing that the Lord showed him the way. The Lord had Moses to focus on His promises. He told him to harken unto His voice, not the voice of lack, or fear. Those voices would discourage. The Lord reminded Him of who He was. He told Moses, I am the One who brought you out and I am the One who will heal you. The result was, they were led to a place with plenty of water. Problem solved!
Keeping our focus on the Lord and his commandments during difficult and uncertain times can help us listen better to the voice of God and we can hear clearer of where He is trying to lead us. Maybe you are finding it hard right now to not get discouraged. Let the word of the Lord encourage you today to trust Him even in the midst of uncertainty. Focus on Jesus and let Him lead you.
Let’s pray together:
Lord, we are sorry for the times when we get caught up on our situations. Help us to remember who You are and what You have commanded us during these times. Help us to keep our focus on where You are taking us and not where we are presently. If there is any place in our life that our focus is on something other than on your will, show us and lead us to your perfect will.
In Jesus Name, Amen.
